Subway Sing-along

April 4th, 2009

For our latest mission, we took the ever famous “I Love the World” Discovery Channel commercial, switched around the lyrics, and took it to the streets, err the subway. The video of the mission pretty much says it all:

Upon meeting up, our agents immediatly began going over the lines. Most of the agents had not even seen what they would be singing that day.

We had to memorise all our lines just before the mission. Here was the script:

Agent 1: The subway never gets old huh?
Agent 2: Nope.
Agent 1: Kinda makes you want to…
Agent 2: Break out into song?
Agent 1: Yup.

I love the red seats
I love the shiny poles
I love the transfers
I love the ticket tolls,
I love the subway
with all its sights and sounds
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da

I love the bright lights
I love the sliding doors
I love reading the ads
I love the bridge on Bloor
I love the subway
It’s such a brilliant place
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da

I love the platforms
I love the door chime
I love my metropass
I love how it’s on time
I love the subway.
And all its sights and sounds.
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da

I love the long rides,
I love the empty seats,
I Love the full trains,
And all the ones we meet
I love the subway,
It’s such a brilliant place.
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da
Boom-de-ya-da

Once we had the song ready to go, we soon jumped onto the next subway.

From there the song began with Eddie and Amanda talking about their love of the subway. It quickly escalated as more and more agents join in each verse. Eventually by the last verse, the song was going full out. Everyone on the train was either singing, or looking around in wonder. It truely was a very touching and exciting experience.

Mission Accomplished.

This is the awesomest awesome that ever awesomed.

A few weeks ago, when I visited Toronto for the first time, me and my lover (who is a Torontonian) tried to figure out how to make one for the whole city. We were singing it on the subway.

And now you all have done it for our beloved Red Rocket alone. This is so much win. (And I must get people doing this in Washington DC, where I’m from.)

If you do it again, I’d do ANYTHING to get in on this, as singing, geekery, and transit are 3 of my absolute favorite things ever!
